PWP Launches Newly Diagnosed
Educational Series
PWP is excited to announce the launch of our Newly Diagnosed Educational Series. The series will be facilitated by our Executive Director and PWR! Therapist, Bailey Martin, and our very own counsellor, Dr. Linda Franchi.

This series, intended for people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the past two years, will increase participants’ knowledge about Parkinson’s and help them to connect with others who are at a similar stage in their Parkinson’s journey.

Bailey and Dr. Franchi will discuss symptoms and treatments, what a Personal Parkinson's Plan could consist of, emotional changes, and coming to terms with a Parkinson's diagnosis. This series will also explore family and care partner support and the importance of finding purpose and meaning with Parkinson's.

The Newly Diagnosed Educational Series runs over five weeks from November 16 to December 14, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm every Tuesday.

This series will fill up fast and we are registering on a first come first serve basis, so please sign up right away so that you don't miss out. Email or call us to register at info@parkinsonwellness.ca or (250) 360-6800. If your diagnosis is outside of two years, but you are interested in attending, please contact us.
Share Your Stories for Giving Tuesday

November 30th is Giving Tuesday – a day in which communities across Canada and the world unite to rally for their favorite charities and causes. This year, Parkinson Wellness Projects is asking you to take part in Giving Tuesday by sharing your stories of what it means to you to be part of the PWP community, and why you’ve chosen to give back.

If you’ve volunteered with or donated to PWP in the past year, we would love to be able to share your story of a benefit that PWP has given to you, or a reason that you value our contributions. Please send us an email with your story, and include a photo if you’d like us to add it. Over the course of November, we’ll be sharing some of these stories on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #givingtuesday. You can also share your own stories online, letting friends, family, and the broader community know about why PWP matters to you.

Stay tuned for more stories of giving as we move through November and towards Giving Tuesday!

PWP Society Membership Is Waiting For You
We have great news: the waiting period is over, and the Board of Parkinson Wellness Projects has officially approved the process for becoming a PWP Society member. Society members are able to vote on Board membership and certain special resolutions, and attend our Annual General Meeting each year.

You do not have to be a member of the Society to be a PWP participant – our classes, support groups, workshops, and counselling are open to anyone who needs them.

To become a member of the PWP Society, you must confirm that you meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or are, or have been, the primary caregiver or immediate family member of a person diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease;
  • You have been a participant in programs offered by the Society or one of the Amalgamating Societies in the past year or for a continuous period of at least one year, or;
  • You have acted as a volunteer for the Society or one of the Amalgamating Societies in the past year or for a continuous period of at least one year.
If you’re interested in being a Society member, please contact PWP at 250-360-6800 or email us at info@parkinsonwellness.ca.
Instructor Highlight - Janine Herron
Janine’s passion for more than 30 years has been to create engaging and vigorous, science-based fitness programs. There is a spiritedness in PD fighters that is not found in the standard athlete, and she uses that unique energy to fuel her programming. Her goal is for each participant to feel energized and empowered at the end of training.
Janine is a certified kinesiologist, Rock Steady Boxing coach, Active Aging instructor and Advanced Flatwater Stand Up Paddle Board instructor. A big believer in functional fitness, she focuses on the “Go” more than the “Show”. The participants who she has had the pleasure of meeting in her classes have greatly inspired her with their unparalleled grit and determination.

Janine is currently teaching over Zoom, and can be found leading Rock Steady Boxing on Wednesdays for the Yellow level at 9:00 AM and Pink at 10:00 AM, and on Fridays for the Blue level at 11:00 AM. She also teaches PWPFIT! for Yellow and Pink on Fridays at 10:00 AM. Contact us at info@parkinsonwellness.ca to sign up!
