A New Year

This time last year we were completely focused on planning and implementing the build out of our new centre . Not only was there much excitement but also trepidation. Stalls on permits , supplies and timing of contractors created much frustration. However with our #nevergiveup attitude our centre evolved and in June we moved our equipment to their new home . Jillian’s gym and our living room were created and in June our family as it was moved to the PWP Centre . Our PWP family consisted of 77 regular exercisers . We had our grand opening on September 18 . By this time Krista and Justine were busy assessing more family members . Our classes starting expanding and presently we have 230 active exercisers. It has been a challenge to schedule classes however with our instructors and volunteers we have created some very challenging and fun classes .

Fast track to the present. PWP program committee is looking forward to creating even better programs . Our PWPFIT! Classes, the backbone to FUNctional exercises are in the midst of re evaluation. I suggest you all take at least 2 PWPFIT! Classes at your assessed levels . These exercises are designed for Parkinson’s and much research has concluded that we do better if we work on our function. These exercises help us to increase range of motion in our trunk area , the area which allows us to take bigger breaths, and increase strength in our respiratory muscles . This then helps to prevent aspiration and speech issues. Other PWPFIT exercises help to improve posture , stride length with walking and shoulder range of motion . They also help with our balance .

Returning to TS Eliot ‘So next years words, await another voice’. PWP board of directors and their committees will be looking forward to engaging you, our family, to help us continue To evolve our programs . A speech therapist will be available to help us maintain our voices . We will have a choir class. With your input we can host more educational events .

You our PWP family are our new voices !not just with new programs but also with fundraising events . Come and chat with us!

See you in the living room in January 2020.
