Douglas Mile Highlights!
Thank you for your support and participation in the Douglas Mile held on Monday, May 23. What fun it was to kick off the Victoria Day parade and be cheered on by thousands of spectators! Thanks to you, we raised almost $20,000! These funds go directly towards our exercise programs, counselling, assessments, support groups, and education. We would not be able to offer these services free of charge without your continued support.

If you didn't get a chance to donate to the Douglas Mile, there is still time! Donate now! Be sure to include "Douglas Mile" in the dedication section.

Spinning Wheels Tour

Join us Saturday, June 25, at Clover Point, as we celebrate the start of the Spinning Wheels Tour: a cross Canada bike ride to help raise awareness of Parkinson's disease.

Celebrate with us as the team’s journey to ride across Canada begins right here in Victoria! The Spinning Wheel’s Tour team of Steve Iseman, Jim Redmond, Mike Loghrin, and Darlene Richards-Loghrin, plan to ride east through every Canadian province. Their route is approximately 8,000 km. They expect to average 125 km a day, six days a week for approximately three months. The team includes two riders with Parkinson’s, and two ride-along supporters. Along the way, they will be meeting with people whose lives are touched by Parkinson’s.

"We are not athletes, just people with the resolve to do what it takes to live well with this disease, and to encourage others."

Watch the Spinning Wheels Tour video here.

If you'd like to accompany the tour on all or part of the first leg of the journey, from Clover Point to the ferry terminal, please contact PWP at 250-360-6800 or info@parkinsonwellness.ca.

Bring your friends and family to ride with you, or cheer on the other riders! Electric bikes are welcome.

Society Membership
What does it mean to be a PWP Society Member? Members of the Society have the ability to vote on major resolutions brought forth by the Board, can stand for Board membership, and can vote to elect Board members at our Annual General Meeting. Would you like to have a voice in the future of PWP? Then maybe a Society Membership is right for you.

You do not have to be a member of the Society to be a PWP participant – our classes, support groups, workshops, and counselling are open to anyone who needs them. To become a member of the PWP Society, you must confirm that you meet one or more of the following eligibility criteria:
  • You have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease or are, or have been, the primary caregiver, or immediate family member, of a person diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease;
  • You have been a participant in programs offered by the Society or one of the Amalgamating Societies in the past year or for a continuous period of at least one year, or;
  • You have acted as a volunteer for the Society or one of the Amalgamating Societies in the past year or for a continuous period of at least one year.
If you’re interested in being a Society member, please contact PWP at 250-360-6800 or email us at info@parkinsonwellness.ca.
New Boxing Instructor – Welcome Adrian Silva

Before finding his calling in kinesiology, which he is currently in school for, Adrian had various careers. Throughout his adolescence and adulthood, he has been fortunate to be involved in sports and activities that allow him to push his body to the max. Through these outlets he has been able to express himself and gain valuable information which he would like to pass on to others with the goal of improving lives.

Adrian has been involved in martial arts for many years, and has led classes, as well as trained and competed in different parts of the world.

He has always felt strongly about the benefits of martial arts, but since writing a paper about how boxing can help people with neurodegenerative diseases, he was floored to find out that he can use one of his passions to help these individuals. Adrian is grateful PWP has provided him an avenue to pass on his knowledge of these movements and build lasting relationships in the process.
