Movement is Medicine
For Grandma Joyce, Every Step Matters
My name is Valerie and this August I’ll be hiking the 46km Berg Lake Trail in support of Parkinson Wellness Projects to honour my grandma, Joyce Williams, who has been living with Parkinson’s for over 25 years.
My grandma is one of the strongest people I know. Diagnosed with Parkinson's at 58, she is now 85 and still cracking jokes, remembering all the little details, and not taking sh*t from anyone. Despite her fighting spirit, I’ve witnessed the immense toll Parkinson’s has taken on her body and mind.
Seeing someone you love stuck in bed, unable to move freely or experience the world the way they once did, can feel crushing. This close exposure to Parkinson’s has driven me to pursue movement and exploration while I can.
With preparations for Berg Lake well under way, I will have hiked over 200km before stepping foot on the trail this August. My goal is to raise $2500 with 100% of these proceeds going directly to support the programs and community offered through Parkinson Wellness Projects.
Growing Stronger Together
With your support, Parkinson Wellness Projects (PWP) can continue to empower those affected by Parkinson’s disease by improving function and increasing quality of life through fun, safe and evidence-based exercise programs, support groups, and counseling.
